Senior Multi-Skilled Engineer - Brighter Foods

Shift: Rotating Days/Nights 4 on, 4 off (6am-6pm / 6pm-6am)

Location: Tywyn

REPORTING TO: Engineering Manager 

Salary- £45,000 - £50,000

Overview: 

The Senior Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer is a key leadership role within the engineering team of a food processing facility. This role is responsible for leading and coordinating maintenance activities across various shifts, ensuring the efficient operation of machinery and equipment, and providing technical expertise to resolve complex issues. The Senior Engineer plays a crucial role in maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and operational efficiency within the food production environment. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Technical Leadership: 

  • Lead and mentor a team of multi-skilled engineers and technicians across multiple shifts. 
  • Provide technical expertise to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and automation issues. 
  • Collaborate with the engineering and production teams to optimize equipment performance and reliability. 

Maintenance and Troubleshooting: 

  • Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance activities to minimize downtime and ensure optimal equipment functionality. 
  • Conduct root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. 
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and PLC-based control systems to maintain operational efficiency. 

Continuous Improvement: 

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements within the production environment. 
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles and best practices to streamline maintenance operations. 
  • Drive initiatives to reduce waste, improve productivity, and enhance overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). 

Safety and Compliance: 

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, standards, and company policies. 
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures. 
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness and adherence to best practices among the engineering team. 

Communication and Collaboration: 

  • Coordinate with production, quality, and supply chain teams to prioritize maintenance activities and minimize disruptions. 
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels to provide updates on maintenance schedules, equipment status, and project timelines. 
  • Foster strong relationships with equipment suppliers, contractors, and service providers to ensure timely support and resolution of issues. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field; professional engineering certification is a plus. 
  • Extensive experience in a maintenance leadership role within the food industry. 
  • Strong technical knowledge of food processing equipment, automation systems, and utilities. 
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, electrical troubleshooting, and mechanical systems. 
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and quality management systems.
