Why be a Site Engineer at PLN? 

We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer with a strong mechanical background to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and improving production equipment across our tablet and capsule manufacturing facility, ensuring maximum equipment reliability, safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.

The role will support all areas of manufacturing, packaging, utilities, and site services, carrying out both planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown support.

As a Site Engineer at PLN, you’ll:

Maintenance & Reliability

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities in line with the site maintenance schedule.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and minimise production downtime.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults on manufacturing equipment.
  • Repair, overhaul and improve production machinery to maximise reliability and performance.
  • Complete maintenance documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

Manufacturing Equipment Support

Maintain and repair equipment including:

  • Tablet presses
  • Capsule filling machines
  • Blenders and mixers
  • Metal detectors
  • Compressors and site utilities

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with GMP, food safety and health & safety standards.
  • Adhere to permits to work, lockout/tagout procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Support internal and external audits as required.
  • Maintain engineering standards in line with company procedures and regulatory requirements.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement engineering improvements to reduce downtime and recurring faults.
  • Support root cause analysis investigations and corrective actions.
  • Assist with installation, commissioning and validation of new equipment.
  • Contribute to engineering projects and site improvement initiatives.

What skills and experience do I need for this role? 

Essential

  • Time-served engineering apprenticeship or recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, BTEC or equivalent).
  • Multi-skilled engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical maintenance skills.
  • Electrical fault-finding capability on industrial machinery.
  • Experience working with:
    • Motors & Gearboxes
    • Bearings
    • Pneumatics
    • Vacuum Pumps
    • Sensors
    • Inverters/VFDs
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and technical manuals.
  • Experience using CMMS or maintenance management systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.

Desirable

  • Experience within food, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical or FMCG manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of GMP-controlled environments.
  • PLC fault-finding experience (Siemens, Allen Bradley or similar).
  • 18th Edition qualification.
  • Food Safety and HACCP awareness.
  • IOSH Working Safely or equivalent.
