07.11.2025

Ciara Palfreyman

Alise Burkevica, Site Lead at THG Nutrition Manufacturing

From starting as a Gift-Wrapping Operative in a small Guernsey warehouse to leading operations at Omega, one of THG Nutrition's largest manufacturing sites for Myprotein powders - Alise has built her career through hard work and a willingness to learn, with each challenge helping her grow as a leader.

Alise plays a key role in shaping both operational excellence and team culture at one of THG’s busiest manufacturing hubs. In this behind-the-scenes interview, she reflects on the moments that have shaped her career, how her team prepares for the all-important Peak period, and what it takes to keep operations running smoothly during THG’s busiest trading seasons.

Can you tell us a bit about your journey to becoming Site Lead?

My journey with THG has been nothing as short of an adventure! I first joined the company when I was 19, stepping into my very first job in a small warehouse in Guernsey. What started as a learning experience quickly became a passion - every challenge, every role has shaped me into the person and professional I am today. I started as a Gift-Wrapping Operative, and after spending over a year in that initial role, I took some time away but found my way back to THG five and a half years ago - and I have not looked back since! From starting as a Production Administrator to now being a Site Lead, it’s been a journey full of growth, resilience, and gratitude. I’m incredibly thankful for all the opportunities, lessons, and inspiring people who’ve been part of my THG story.

What first drew me to THG was the incredible range of opportunities the company offers to those who are ready to work hard, take responsibility, and lead. At THG, if you’re driven and willing to learn, there’s truly no limit to where you can go.

What keeps me inspired is the company’s vision and the belief that we’re building something meaningful for the future. I’m proud to be part of that journey and to continue growing alongside THG.

What does a typical day look like for you?

No two days are ever the same at the site - and that’s exactly what keeps things exciting! My day usually starts with catching up with our Production and Shift Managers to review the previous 24 hours. We look at our KPIs, identify any actions needed, and plan for what’s ahead. From there, my focus shifts to the near future - whether that’s supporting ongoing projects like new product or packaging trials, driving quality improvements, or hosting site tours for colleagues and visitors (including influencers, which is always great fun, but can be stressful). And of course, audits are a big part of our rhythm - we have at least one every month. I’m incredibly proud to say that our team consistently performs brilliantly in them. It’s a real reflection of everyone’s hard work, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence.

How do you approach building a strong team culture on-site - especially in such a fast-paced environment?

Building a strong team culture in a fast-paced environment is never easy - cultural change takes time, patience, and consistency. I’m always working on developing myself as a leader, whether that’s through reading, listening to inspiring voices like American author and speaker Simon Sinek, or learning from those around me. One thing I’ve learned is that not everyone shares the same drive or motivation, and that’s okay. My focus is on spotting those “shining diamonds” on the shop floor - the people with potential, passion, and a willingness to grow. By nurturing and guiding them to become confident, capable leaders, we naturally build a culture that others want to follow. At Omega, we take pride in being one of THG’s largest manufacturing sites, so leading by example is key. When our teams see strong leadership, collaboration, and pride in what we do, that energy becomes contagious - and that’s how great culture is built.

What would you say your strategy is for preparing for Peak and what does it look like from your site’s perspective?

At our site, Peak isn’t just a season - it’s a constant mindset. We’re fortunate to be able to build stock well in advance and store it in our fulfilment centres, which helps us stay prepared and agile when demand surges. A big part of our success comes from the strong partnership we have with the Nutrition Supply Chain team. We work side by side throughout the year - sharing challenges, finding solutions together, and celebrating wins whenever we can. That collaboration and mutual support really make the difference when Peak arrives. Ultimately, no one can do it alone. Peak is all about teamwork - finding your people, building trust, and creating lasting relationships across departments. When everyone’s aligned and working together, operations flow seamlessly, and that’s when the magic really happens.

What are some of the biggest logistical or operational challenges your site faces during Peak?

One of the biggest challenges we face during Peak is managing the high volume of changeovers, brush-downs, and allergen cleans - all while continuing to hit our KPIs and meet the ever-changing demands from the supply chain. Although we do a lot of stock-building in advance, peak week itself is all about being reactive. Market needs can change quickly – human minds change by minute, and our goal is to adapt within 12–24 hours; getting products back online as fast as possible to avoid any loss in revenue. It is an intense period that puts both the site and our teams to the test, but that’s where our preparation and teamwork truly shine. Despite the pressure, we always rise to the challenge, and we’re proud of how the whole site pulls together to make it happen.

What does success look like to you once Peak wraps up?

For us, success after peak is all about seeing the results come to life - when we receive those updates from the supply chain team showing that forecasted volumes have been met and revenue targets achieved, it’s an incredible feeling. We love sharing those wins across the site, especially when there’s a shout-out from our senior leadership in the daily or hourly revenue reports - those moments really boost team motivation and remind everyone how their hard work pays off. At the end of the day, success isn’t just about numbers - it’s about stability and pride. A strong, successful peak means we’ve stayed within our KPIs and budget, and that helps secure our roles and our future. We all value that sense of security, and every successful year reinforces that we’re moving in the right direction together.
