Role Overview
As a Machine Operative, you will play a vital role in the end-to-end production process — from accurately weighing raw materials to packing and palletising finished goods. You will operate high-speed production machinery, maintain exceptional quality standards, and drive efficiency while minimising waste. The role requires strict adherence to Health & Safety, BRC standards, and a strong commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and high-performing production environment.
Key Responsibilities
Production Operations
-
Operate high-speed machinery safely and efficiently, completing all tasks to maximise output and minimise waste.

Carry out key functions (to be defined by line managers), such as:
-
Accurate weighing and cross-checking of ingredients
-
Picking and allocation tasks
-
Use of systems such as SAGE (as required)
-

Follow Bills of Materials (BOMs) to ensure right-first-time production.
-
Perform daily machine safety checks and act promptly on any issues.
-
Maintain high standards of cleanliness through a strict “clean as you go” approach.
-
Complete all required production, hygiene, and quality documentation accurately and on time.
Quality, Health, Safety & Environment
-
Work in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and all related safety legislation.
-
Maintain personal and team hygiene in line with BRC and internal standards.
-
Support continuous improvement of 5S, safety, and quality standards.
-
Lead and contribute to quality assurance initiatives to maintain consistent product standards.
-
Ensure waste reduction processes and environmental guidelines are followed.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
-
Contribute to achieving production KPIs for output, waste, quality, and efficiency.
-
Participate in daily performance meetings and use OEE and other data tools effectively.
-
Collaborate with Planning, Blending, Production, and Warehouse teams to maximise workflow efficiency.

Engage in Lean Six Sigma activities, including:
-
5S improvements

SMED initiatives
-
Autonomous maintenance
-
Problem-solving on basic processing/machine issues

Creating and updating SOPs for assigned machines/areas

Teamwork
-
Support a high-performing team environment through effective communication and collaboration.

Assist in shift handovers to ensure consistent performance across teams.

Contribute to ongoing development of team capability.
