About The R&D Team
Based within the technical division of the business, The R&D Team are responsible for formulating products and seeing them through from concept to the factory whilst also ensuring all testing elements required for the PIF are carried out.
Why be a Chemist at THG Beauty?
Reporting to Senior chemist/ Technical Manager/Head of R&D the Chemist will be qualified to degree level or equivalent and have at least three years’ experience in a relevant product development role. They will be responsible for taking product briefs from concept through to completion working closely with the relevant teams associated with those projects. They will be required to delegate work to Laboratory Technicians and Junior Chemists and oversee their training.
As a Chemist, you’ll:
- Follow company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
- Follow company Work Instructions (WIN’s).
- Maintain hygiene standards within the laboratory, ensuring it remains a clean, safe and efficient workplace.
- Work closely with colleagues on all new product briefs and liaise directly with customer contacts when required, ensuring CPAs are followed and relevant teams are updated of any changes.
- Organise and monitor all the required testing and communicate results to marketing colleagues and your manager. Maintain accurate records relating to the development and production of safe and legal cosmetics and personal care formulations.
- Keep up to date with raw material launches and product formulation and market trends.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of the cosmetic regulations and ensure all products are developed in line with safety and legal guidelines.
- Perform and maintain the COSHH system for raw material safety evaluation.
- Be able to support and present alongside the Commercial team in customer presentations and meetings representing the THG Labs technical team.
- Work closely with the Process technical team and Process department to ensure products are scaled up successfully. Organise and oversee pilot batches and relevant factory trials, record and monitor all associated.
- Oversee first production batches with the process technical team.
- Oversee tech transfer projects where appropriate.
- Ensure any reports are fully trained on all aspects of the development process. Play an active role in your team members professional and personal development.
- Fully understand COPTIS and be able to train junior members according to the relevant WINs.
- Demonstrate effectiveness as a member of the Technical Team through consistent professional conduct and role model behaviour.
- Communicate effectively and positively with all teams, colleagues, and managers.
- Take reasonable care for the health and safety for yourself and other persons who may be affected by your work.
- Cooperate with regards to all company health & safety measures, following H&S training when using equipment.
- Report to a person in authority any work situation which may represent a serious or imminent danger to health & safety or any shortcomings in the protection arrangements to health & safety. In respect of any hazards remember ‘see it, report it’
- Help create a positive H&S culture, by continually coaching a safe working environment.
- Helping to promote a positive working atmosphere within the company.
- Any other duties that may be required from time to time.
