Chris joined THG Beauty as a Graduate Paid Marketing Executive in 2021. Within 3 years, he's worked across multiple divisions and is now Paid Media Manager for LOOKFANTASTIC. Read on to discover more about his journey in Paid Performance Marketing.

 

"Looking back on my career with THG, it's been a remarkable journey. When I graduated from the University of Leeds in 2021 as a Paid Media Executive within the Beauty Brands division, I don’t think I ever comprehended how widely the opportunities would spread.  

Before joining THG I had worked within e-Commerce Consulting during my placement year at Hilton. I quickly realised my skills lay within the analytical and data driven space, so when I saw THG’s core values aligned with leveraging data to make the right decisions at the right time, I was instantly interested. Having minimal marketing experience, it is difficult to decide which arm of marketing to pursue. However, with the help of the Talent team I realised Paid Performance Marketing would be a great fit. 

Fast-forward almost 3 years I have had a very varied career so far. In January 2022 I moved away from Beauty Brands and took up my new challenge within THG Luxury Division. From here, I led a small team to fully rebuild the way PPC and Paid Social ran across the 4 sites, delivering consistent double and triple figure YoY growth. This was my first formal managerial role, so being enrolled on the Corndel Leadership & Management apprenticeship scheme really helped me take theory and put it into practice in my role.  

A personal highlight was seeing how as a team we developed the Accounts to drive over +120% YoY Revenue growth at a -3ppts. lower COS%. When budgets were tight, and efficiency at the forefront to be able to turn performance around through a complete restructure was a great feeling of achievement and led to me being awarded ‘Future Star of the Year’ at the divisional yearly awards. 

In September 2023 I took the leap across to LOOKFANTASTIC. Managing the European and Middle East regions just before peak was a challenge I really enjoyed. The support from the team was unparalleled, and within the first few weeks I was already being exposed to PPC with MarTech I had never seen before. This led to strong community bonds cross group, with knowledge sharing sessions around different platforms, RFPs with potential partners and all-round stronger collaboration to drive Paid Media excellence across group. I now work closely with central and partners to strengthen relationships with external companies that can help drive success and improve group performance. 

If I was to give any advice to potential new applicants at THG I would say embrace as many opportunities presented to you as possible. It’s natural to feel a little uneasy about change, but THG pioneers a culture that allows you to explore different avenues that are right for you. I would also say don’t shy away from innovation, and blue sky thinking. THG is at the forefront of so many tech developments because of their innovation without consequence mindset, and pioneering this is what will help you progress your career at THG."
