About Bentley Labs

Bentley Laboratories is an OTC and cGMP formulation development and manufacturing partner for over 100 brands in the skin care, OTC and personal care industry, based in three sites spanning 350,000 total sq. feet in the Edison NJ area.  Our customers are located across the country, and we produce well over 3,000 different products, utilizing a wide range of chemistries and over 50 manufacturing and production lines, including:

  • Surfactant chemistries to formulate and produce hair care, bath & body care products
  • Oil in water & water in oil emulsion formulations for skin care, and OTCs including SPF and Acne treatments
  • Hot fill applications for solid stick deodorants, lip balms, and other wax based ointments
  • Powders for dry shampoos and other loose power face applications

With this diverse and complex set of capabilities, the company employs over 400 people, with 250 devoted to the manufacturing conversion processes, and the remainder in salary roles devoted to innovation, product development, engineering, finance, sales, marketing, procurement, and customer service.   The VP of Finance is a key member of the company executive team, and plays a critical role in our overall operations, finance, accounting, and business leadership.

About the Finance Team

Based within the Beauty Division of the business, The Finance Team is responsible for invoicing and receiving cash from customers, paying suppliers whilst maximizing internal cashflow, monitoring operational overhead spend and maximizing value add to EBITDA. As the business expands and takes on new challenges in the form of acquired businesses or new ventures, finance is there to support every step of the way, leading to dynamic and challenging roles – no two days are the same! Common characteristics among our team are the ability to drive change, adaptability and resourcefulness, to ensure we can keep pace with the business, without compromising on financial control or sales performance.

About the Role

Reporting to Finance Director, the Finance Manager is responsible for the Management Accounts, looking internally at key performance metrics including labour efficiency, stock control and material analysis. The role will naturally include ad hoc tasks, understanding opportunities for profit improvements and new capital projects the site will be embarking on.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the profit and loss account, ensuring accurate results and robust forecasts.
  • Monitor and challenge factory performance to meet targets and understand variances.
  • Review overheads with cost centre managers, driving cost improvements and managing stock with key stakeholders.
  • Lead profit improvement meetings, focusing on savings, and track results.
  • Analyze monthly and quarterly numbers, presenting findings to the Finance Director.
  • Assist with budgeting and controls for Manufacturing and Opex cost centres; drive process improvements on site.
  • Partner with stakeholders on profit improvement strategies, managing progress and continuous improvement in accounting practices.
  • Manage FTE staff, oversee end-to-end audit processes, and act as the primary contact for external auditors.
  • Identify risks, propose solutions, and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures, raising concerns to the Finance Director.
  • Foster effective communication and promote a positive working atmosphere across teams.
  • Ensure health and safety compliance, following relevant training and reporting hazards.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Ideally the candidate will have manufacturing experience
  • Must be highly numerate with experience working in excel
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Strong analytical skills
