Joining us straight from Cambridge University in June 2016 on an internship, chess international master Yangfan enjoyed it so much that he didn’t go back to uni to do his Masters course. One of the best decisions he’s ever made, he says.

“One of the things I've developed are my technical skills. There's a really good community within the data teams, where we share a lot of knowledge”

One of Yangfan’s proudest achievements in the Group is being responsible for introducing Tableau Reports to the business. He also feels really good about the fact that members of his team approached him to say that they wouldn’t want to work with anyone else. In fact, a large part of his leadership philosophy is to inspire those around you, because they really believe in you.

“I've learned that you can really work wonders and achieve so much more as a team”

Yangfan is, by nature, a shy person – somebody who was quite happy to focus on and deliver a project on his own, but thanks to the mentoring and guidance he received from his line manager, he has learned how to get the best out of a team. Something that’s made him really appreciate the sense of community that comes from working with like-minded people, who share the same drive and vision.
