Working as a Business Intelligence Engineer at the THG, you will have the opportunity to join a well-established team of data experts, exploring innovative ways of harnessing a wide array of data captured by the Ingenuity platform to produce near real-time actionable insights. 

 

The team also work alongside our Machine Learning and Experimentation functions to pioneer more proactive insight capabilities (e.g. anomaly detection and prediction) making us the centre of excellence for all things data. 

 

THG is a global business utilising numerous Database technologies across multiple countries and industries, offering challenges and opportunities to build scalable data platforms that are openly available and scalable, enabling the business to react to market trends faster than your typical Data Warehouse would allow. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Provide analytical and development skills across a range of business areas, producing timely documentation and ensuring proposed solutions are fit for purpose.
  • Provide ad-hoc analysis and reports as required.
  • Adhere to team standards for processes and documentation.
  • Proactively improve existing skills, taking on new technical skills as appropriate, and continuously seek to expand business knowledge.
  • Conduct thorough analysis and diagnosis of problems.
  • Monitor evolving IT trends and business requirements, working with third parties to identify and assess appropriate tools/solutions as required.

 

Criteria 

  • Proven experience developing Business Intelligence solutions and developing data warehouses.
  • A solid understanding of working with large data sets
  • A solid understanding of ETL / ELT processes
  • Proven ability to perform effective analysis on large scale projects, providing realistic estimates and timescales as part of the analysis.
  • Ability to influence and communicate effectively (verbal and written) with others across the business, and externally, at all levels.
  • Work well under pressure, able to prioritise and multi-task to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to cope with a fast-paced environment where priorities change to meet business needs.
  • Work effectively both individually and as part of a team.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Preferably Finance or Logistics industry experience.

 

Technical Experience Required 

  • Understanding of database design and development
  • Ability to document and present technical solutions
  • Understanding of dimensional modelling and how this can be applied in a business environment
  • Experience in the administration and development of industry leading visualisation tools such as Tableau, power BI
  • 3+ years experience working with the Microsoft BI Suite (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS)
  • Experience using, managing and creating code repositories. 
  • Strong T-SQL

 

Technical Experience Desired 

  • Ability to understand infrastructure topology in Multi Data Centre environment
  • Basic understanding of administration of SQL server instance (server maintenance, backups, monitoring server performance) within high availability environment.
  • Experience with other programming languages g python, java, .NET 
  • Experience working with REST API’s  
  • Experience in the administration and deployment of applications on a Kubernetes clustered environment
  • Experience creating, configuring and deploying web services within Windows and Linux 
  • Experience working with queue-based systems (RabbitMQ, Kafka, ActiveMQ)
  • Experience working with big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Hive)
